Influencing in action ( and he did not even realise he was doing it)

I was recently talking to my friend who is a fellow consultant and he was telling me how he always puts something humourous in his invoices. He said he did this because he felt it very stark just to ask people for money. It might be a joke or a funny quote. 

I said to him that it must be a refreshing change for the person in finance who usually deals with quite boring and repetitive work to get something across their desk which makes them smile. 

I then said I bet he gets paid quickly. He laughed and said ‘do you know i do’. Clearly he had never connected the two things. 

But this illustrates the point that people do things for people they like and they like people who get to know them a bit or who take the time and trouble to think about the person receiving the request.
